What inspired Slaves of a Different Kind?
UNSHACKLING OUR SOUL TO HEAL AMERICA
From the very onset of our human trafficking advocacy work, my aim was to understand the root causes driving the atrocities of this modern-day slavery.
The discoveries are the essence of this book and an attempt to answer the question that so many people ask: “Why?” Without using the same stereotypical reply, “Because we are sinners (a mere scapegoat),”
I have come to understand that the answers are much deeper and warrant a thorough examination. In that quest for answers I found some of them in the most unsuspecting places…within the ranks of the abolitionist movement itself.
I discovered that many advocates like to distinguish those worthy of healing from those who are not; that the love of Jesus from some of the faith-based organizations is limited to a certain sector of victims; that competition and manipulation exist inside the walls of nonprofit work as well as in corporate America; and that a sense of separatism is displayed by some who have risen to prominence in this field. Hence the title, Slaves of a Different Kind.
The book, however, is not about human trafficking as some may presume. The title was carefully chosen to wake us up, to reveal to us that slavery of one man to another is merely the slavery of the soul.
Such human suffering has always occurred as a result of our own inner enslavement to unhealthy ideologies and erroneous thinking and that is what is destroying the very fabric of America’s social structure; the root of, not only human trafficking, but all of the other egregious acts one to another.
